You have probably noticed and moaned about the step up from GCSE to A-levels (or other higher education). The workload increased while the support resources possibly decreased. Well there will be another step up when you apply for medicine and you will notice this from the word go during your application. Support from teachers in particular will fall quite as a bit as often they themselves will not know the answer to your questions.
Resources and support however is available, when it comes to medicine I feel that the best support is provided by people who have experienced the medicine application process. That is current medical students, rejected applicants and current applicants who have for example had an interview at one of the medical schools you have applied for. Another great thing is that more often than not, these people are more than willing to help you.
If you’d like to speak to somebody at the medical school, then admissions staff are usually the people to go to. Contact details are available in the individual medical school. To be sure of a satisfied response, if possible go into the medical school – there is nothing wrong with that! If over the phone you find that you have some grumpy person on the phone, it’s probably because you have asked a question that she has already answered five times that morning. Such as, ‘have you started interviewing yet?’ These questions are not really that useful to you, just handy to know. On MedApp, there is information such as the above located under each individual medical school. If you can’t find what you are looking for ask in the forums and if I think it’s worth asking, I’ll ring the medical school up.
The best thing to do if you have any questions is ask. Don’t store them up, as they say there is probably a thousand other people who want to know the same thing. That is what MedApp is for!
