MedApp – ‘Question asked by somebody using the contact form. MedApp went out and found a few answers.’

hi,

does it matter which med school you did your medical degree from as to who becomes a high flyer and who becomes a GP?

Because some medical schools have a better reputation than others...does that reflect on the doctors the med schools produce too?

Well, yes and no. An 'Oxbridge' graduate will always stand out from the crowd to a Consultant in the interview panel.

But aside from that if you have a great cv and good interpersonal skills then you can make up for it.

Good luck, and don't forget to enjoy it- there's more to life than worrying about whether or not you'll make it as a Consultant!

Of course intelligence is not the thing which makes people 'get to the top'. It is a combination of hundreds of things such as ambitiousness, communication skills and organisation skills. If you work hard and succeed at being a good HO, then you have just as good a chance at consultantship as the Oxbridge lot.

not really, your furute career advancement will depend on getting some good references and doing some good research.
